CAN's Mission to provide and scale community-based social supports to a wide array of disabled people and their families that bridge gaps in processing and managing disabled experiences, informs our all of our decisions.
CAN's Vision for disabled people and our families to have abundant and informed support networks that enable them to reach and sustain self-actualization in a disability affirming way, without relying on capitalist bureaucratic systems, drives us forward.
We center the leadership, access needs, and lived expertise of disabled people, especially those most impacted by ableism and other forms of oppression.
Learn more about our principles here.
• CAN leads and learns collaboratively with a commitment to reducing harm & hierarchy.
• CAN values diversity of perspective and equity of voice
• CAN centers lived experience over proximity or study.
• CAN creates clear feedback loops so participants, partners, and community members can name harm, identify gaps, and help improve programs in real time.
• CAN treats accountability as relational: when harm happens, we respond with transparency, repair, and a commitment to do better.
• CAN’s accountability is also structural, showing up in accessible communication, fair compensation, and ongoing checks to ensure our values match our actions.
